Texas has a funky high school tradition. Guys give "mums" to their homecoming dates and gals reciprocate by giving "garters" to their date. Jared's is on the left. If I were any good at photoshop, I'd remove the hands in the picture.

I still have my mums packed away. I went to Madison high school and some girls had 4 to five mums all over them! The teachers weren't too thrilled.
That's an interesting tradition, for sure.
